The majority of the Mapuche reside in Region IX of Chile, represented by the grey outline around the red marker on the google map. In January 2009, JTerm participants witnessed the inauguration of the Escuela de Autogobierno (Mapuche Self-Governance School). Headquarters for the school are in Temuco, the largest city of Region IX.
